“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

Hold on to this: The definition of Bethlehem is “place of bread”.

Do you ever feel like you don’t have much to offer, especially when it comes to God? Maybe you have heard someone say that you have purpose and a calling but you just doubt that you have what it takes to really be effective for the Lord to use.

If you have those thoughts or have ever had them, just know that you are not alone.

Also know that you ARE enough for God and you DO have what it takes, through Jesus!

You see God doesn’t call only the biggest, boldest and strongest people to do His work. God’s plan doesn’t involve only the “best of the best”. A lot of times we look at ourselves and think that we don’t have what it takes or have messed up too much for God to want us. However, that is so far from the truth.

It does not matter how much you think you have “screwed up” or messed up, you are never too far from God. It does not matter how small or insignificant you think you are, you do have a purpose and a calling to be part of God’s plan!

This verse above from Micah 5 is a great example that God does not need only what the world sees as the biggest and greatest. The town of Bethlehem was not a great and marvelous city in Judah from the perspective of those around there. God even says, “though you are small among the clans of Judah” because that was how the people would see Bethlehem and most likely even the people living there.

But He goes on to say that “out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel”. He is talking about Jesus. You see Jesus did not have this marvelous birth in a palace in a large town, but rather came to earth and was born within the small town of Bethlehem.

What you have to understand is that with God, whether you see yourself as big or small, you have great purpose! Let Him do greater things in and through you than you ever imagined!
