JOYFUL THANKS
Day 5
“And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”
Colossians 1:12
Joy – the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune
Thanks – being appreciative for something that someone has done for you or has given to you
During the holiday season (Thanksgiving & Christmas), you hear a lot of “Thank you”, “I appreciate that” or “I am thankful for (fill in the blank)”. This season helps us to remember and to focus on what we truly have to be thankful for.
The verse above talks about giving a joyful thanks to the Father. The verse doesn’t mention an empty-thanks or even just a thanks, but rather a JOYFUL thanks. A thanks with emotion and excitement because of the gift that we have received.
What gift is that? Well, I am glad that you asked. The author of Colossians writes that we have been qualified to share in the inheritance of God’s holy people in the kingdom of light. Now, the important thing to understand is that this qualification was not earned by us, but rather given to us. The inheritance is eternal life with God in heaven!
You see, God gave his Son [Jesus] so that we may be reconciled with him through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. This is why we should be giving joyful thanks to God, because God GAVE to us and Jesus DID for us! Our part is to receive this amazing gift and give a joyful thanks!
